What I’m into now: Smoothies

Working nights, I usually wake up at the tail end of  traditional breakfast time. Upon waking up, I turn to coffee and often not much else. I will eat a little something before work, and then realize I’m hungry not that long into my work shift. I would snack or eat my dinner really early and be hungry again later.

I was eating way too much too late in the day, and not energized because of it. Wanting to give my morning routine a boost—no matter what time that routine starts—I have started drinking smoothies for energy and nutrients.

In a week’s time, I have had a different smoothie every day, and still have a lot of recipes and combinations I want to make.

Strawberry banana/Avocado banana

The first smoothie I made was green; it was a spinach base. I didn’t know what to expect or think of it, but surprisingly couldn’t taste much spinach when I made it. I tasted mostly banana and almond, as that is the milk I used:

Easy green smoothie

2 cups organic spinach
1-1.25 cups milk of your choice
1 tablespoon flax
1 banana
ice

Every smoothie I make starts with ground flax seed. I then add milk/ yogurt/juice then honey/agave and finally fruits and veggies as using.

I have made strawberry-banana, avocado-banana, spinach-banana and blueberry smoothies. I have another spinach recipe, a green tea smoothie and various other fruits and vegetables I plan to try.

I’m loving the smoothies because they are quick, flavorful and a great cold way to start a hot day. If anyone has any good combination or add-ins that boost the health value or flavor, I would love to hear them. If anyone is brave enough to try the spinach smoothie, I would love to hear what you think.
